Masabumi Kikuchi was one of the greats in Japanese jazz for a long time. He recently died and to honor him, a number of his long out of print titles have been reissued. All are worth getting, but this one is the best of the lot! He started as a accompanist on acoustic pianist in the 60s and then later launched a band and a solo career.

By the time of this 1973 release, he was working with internationally known musicians like...well, Elvin Jones and Gene Perla!

This is a deep, heavy, trio session, which has never-before been released on CD to the best of my knowledge, with Masabumi on acoustic piano and Perla playing well and providing the glue between the piano and Elvin Jones' amazing drumming. --- waysidemusic.com
