Hannah Cohen is an Anglo-American singer/songwriter (British mum, jazz musician dad from San Francisco) with an interesting backstory. She’s a high-profile catwalk model, the granddaughter of a celebrated Ulster poet and an ex of Norah Jones sidekick Jesse Harris.

Cohen’s debut LP assembles a suitably interesting crowd of musical aficionados: the producer happens to be Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) while Sam Amidon and members of Bon Iver and Antony And The Johnsons provide delicate, largely acoustic accompaniment.

Her voice is a slight but effective instrument. On tracks such as The Simplest and Shadows, it’s a lazy, breathy sigh; on Don’t Say and Sorry, there’s a bluesy, Karen Dalton holler. Even on the poppier tracks, such as the uptempo California or the doomy, Lana Del Rey-ish Boy+Angel, Cohen’s voice retains a deliciously sad, bucolic yodel that lends everything a folksy gravitas.---metro.co.uk
