Balázs Pándi - drums, percussion
Merzbow (Masami Akita) - all electronics

"Katowice" was recorded live during the spring edition of OFF Club (16.04.2011).
It is a series of warm-up shows before OFF Festival, which takes places every
first weekend of August in Dolina Trzech Stawów, Katowice (Poland). Limited to 500 copies.

"Katowice" is the title of a new live album from Merzbow & Balázs Pándi. It was recorded on 16th April 2011 in Katowice, Poland, and contains four improvised pieces clocking in about an hour. Limited to 500 copies, the CD will hit the stores in September, via Instant Classic label. It is the first volume of Outlaw Recordings - a series of live albums recorded in Poland.

"It was a great concert, great line up, and really great vibe, as usual every time I play in Poland. For me personally, this recording includes my favorite recorded solo piece in the set" - says Pándi. “We both like free jazz and heavy metal music, so musically it's more free improvisation / grindcore / free jazz direction than my solo works” - adds Masami.

"This set was particularly really great for a more straight-forward grind core type stuff. I would describe my playing as SBB influenced grind core here and the equipment and the crew being great definitely helped me" - remembers Pándi. How would he describe the music on this album? "Powerful creation through advanced communication". Well, there's not much to add here. ---instantclassic.bandcamp.com

A pretty intense live performance, definitely better than the incredibly weak Ducks: Live in NYC and only challenged by Cuts, which has some more interesting sonic textures, for the spot of the best of the recent series of Merzbow/Pándi collaborations available. This one spotlights the Merznoise half much better over the drumming, which while technically still impressive, just wouldn't cut it as a solo instrument. Also it helps a lot that the recording quality here is pretty solid; while unmistakably a live recording, the noise feels properly raw, sharp and crispy while still having a spacy enough quality to be able to distinguish what's going on without much trouble. ---nightwrath, rateyourmusic.com

"Katowice" to tytuł koncertowego albumu duetu Merzbow & Balázs Pándi. Jest to zapis występu, jaki muzycy dali 16 kwietnia 2011 roku w Katowicach, w ramach OFF Clubu.

---serpent.pl
